Raimondo: Build Back Better Act 'expands our economy by investing in America's middle class'

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo released a statement regarding the increase of American competitiveness at the Economic Club of New York.

On Friday, Dec. 9, Raimondo made a statement celebrating the recent progress of the American economy in the wake of what she described as "a challenging year," according to a transcribed version of her statement published last week.

“We need to pass the Build Back Better Act. Fundamentally, this legislation is designed to enable Americans to work and expand our economy by investing in America’s middle class," said the Secretary of Commerce in her statement.

According to Raimondo, the unemployment rate in the U.S. has decreased by 70% since President Joe Biden took power, and more than 6 million jobs have been created over the span of the last 11 months. In addition to employment, the Commerce Department has plans to administer nearly $50 billion to be put toward delivering universal, high-speed broadband to all Americans.

In her statement, Raimondo also underscored the importance of expanding the presence and role of women within the American workforce, citing how women were disproportionately affected by the pandemic. She went on to stress the importance of passing the Biden administration's Build Back Better Act in order to further stimulate the economy.
