Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) applauded the Biden Administration’s announcement that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will fund 1,000 new Medicare-funded residency spots in hospitals serving rural and underserved communities.
“Strengthening our health career pipelines in rural and underserved communities is not only a matter of necessity, but also equity. Ways and Means Democrats are committed to improving access to health care for all Americans, regardless of where they live.
These additional residency spots will allow new doctors to learn the unique needs of patients in underserved areas, establish roots in those communities, and potentially continue living and working there for years to come. This is an important step forward in addressing health inequities, and I look forward to continuing to work with Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure on equitably expanding the physician workforce.”
