The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) White River Field Office is seeking public input on a proposal to conduct a planned fuels reduction treatment along the north & west portion of the town of Meeker. This action would create a fuel break that would improve firefighter and public safety by reducing the hazardous fuel loading, which would decrease the likelihood that portions of the town of Meeker would be impacted by a wildland fire. The BLM is partnering with the Town of Meeker, Meeker Fire Department and Rio Blanco County on this project.
“Planned fuels breaks can be a more efficient way for firefighters to slow the progress of a wildfire while ensuring firefighter and public safety. Fuel breaks are an important strategy to minimize the risk of communities and infrastructure being impacted by wildfire events,” said White River Field Manager Bill Mills.
Public comments must be received by Feb. 2, 2022 via the ePlanning project website at the following link https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2012510/510. The public’s input will assist the BLM in identifying any concerns with the proposed fuels reduction project.
