San Diego resident indicted on charges of distributing fentanyl that resulted in 15-year-old’s death

A San Diego resident was indicted in federal court last month on charges of selling a 15-year-old Coronado High School sophomore fentanyl that resulted in his death.

Kaylar Junior Tawan Beltranlap was accused of selling the drug that took the sophomore’s life on May 12, 2021, according to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Acting U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said that it is prudent for parents to discuss the dangers of fentanyl with their children.

“Our community must recognize the threat to middle and high school students from the plague of fentanyl. This case must be a call to action to educate our children about the extreme danger of experimenting with drugs,” Grossman said. “Our community must recognize the threat to middle and high school students from the plague of fentanyl. Agents and Task Force officers with the DEA are heading the investigation into the teenager’s death with a court date set for Feb. 4, for a motion hearing and trial setting, according to a press release.

“The Coronado Police Department is thankful for the collective work to hold the suspect accountable. We are also reminded that we have a family that lost a child because of a dangerous drug,” Coronado Police Chief Chuck Kaye said.
