The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is uniting in efforts to combat human trafficking through the nation’s transportation system.
The DOT posted on Twitter to help raise awareness on the issue.
“Today is National Day of Human Trafficking Awareness. It doesn’t matter where you live or what your transportation job is – you CAN help #PutTheBrakesOnHumanTrafficking,” the DOT wrote on Jan. 11.
According to a news release, the Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking (TLAHT) has aligned with DOT in an effort to pass along knowledge to employers in the transportation industry in how they can combat human trafficking.
The DOT reported that it mandates a human trafficking awareness course for its employees to take every three years.
According to a news release, training videos aid employees with tips and for identifying victims and perpetrators of trafficking.
In addition, the DOT helps fund campaigns to raise awareness in transportation-related industries, according to a news release.
