Black Rock Field Office announces the annual temporary closure of the High Rock Canyon Road

The Black Rock Field Office, Winnemucca District, Bureau of Land Management, will be seasonally closing a portion of the High Rock Canyon Road to vehicle use beginning Monday, February 7, through Friday, May 6, 2022.

High Rock Canyon Road located in the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. High Rock Canyon will be closed between the mouth of High Rock Canyon and about 5 miles below Stevens Camp.

The annual closure period is outlined in the resource management plan for the National Conservation Area. The intent of the closure is to prevent damage to the canyon road and reduce human disturbance of wildlife, including disturbance to lambing bighorn sheep and nesting raptors. The annual closure period starts at the end of Chukar hunting season and continues until the second weekend in May.
