Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, released the following statement after coming to an agreement with the Justice Department for the production of all remaining documents requested by the Committee regarding former President Trump’s attempt to include a politically motivated citizenship question in the 2020 Census:
“Almost three years to the day since Chairman Cummings launched our investigation into former President Trump’s illegal effort to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census, the Oversight Committee has finally obtained the remaining documents that the Trump Administration withheld from Congress. Even though the Supreme Court ruled that the previous administration added the citizenship question based on a false rationale, President Trump obstructed our investigation at every turn, leading the House to hold two of his cabinet members in contempt.”
“The executive branch has now produced the remaining key documents the Committee was seeking, so we can finally complete our investigation. This victory is a vindication of Congress’s authority to uncover the truth on behalf of the American people and yet another repudiation of the Trump Administration’s failed attempt to corrupt the U.S. Census for partisan gain.”
