Restoration News urges support for SAVE America Act, citing citizenship verification and voter ID provisions

Restoration News said in a post on X that the SAVE America Act is a necessary election integrity measure, arguing it would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration, mandate photo identification at the polls, and require states to share voter roll data with the Department of Homeland Security for citizenship checks.

In its post, the outlet described the bill as a baseline safeguard against non-citizen participation in federal elections.

The post came amid ongoing national debate over voting security and eligibility standards. Restoration News also called the bill “the bare minimum required to preserve American democracy.”

Federal law already prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections, and the national voter registration form requires applicants to attest under penalty of perjury that they are U.S. citizens. The SAVE America Act would replace that self-attestation with a requirement to provide documentary proof of citizenship at the time of registration for federal elections, according to materials from the Election Assistance Commission.

Polling suggests broad public support for certain voter verification measures. A Gallup poll published in October 2024 found 84% of U.S. adults favored requiring photo identification at polling places, while 83% supported requiring first-time registrants to provide proof of citizenship.

Outside the legislative debate, Restoration of America launched a $5 million nationwide advertising campaign on April 13, 2026, urging the Senate to advance voter ID legislation tied to the SAVE America Act. The effort includes a $3.1 million national television buy, along with digital outreach and messaging encouraging voters to contact their senators.

The measure itself stalled in the Senate on March 26, 2026, when lawmakers failed to invoke cloture on the SAVE America Act’s Husted amendment, which would have required voters to present photo identification. The motion fell 53–47. Sixty votes are required to overcome a filibuster, leaving the amendment short of the threshold to advance.

Restoration News describes itself as a project of Restoration of America and an investigative outlet focused on political news, immigration, and issues it says affect everyday Americans.
