Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently outlined the Department of Agriculture's (USDA) accomplishments in terms of market expansion and improvement since the Biden-Harris Administration took office last year, according to a Jan 19 press release.
According to the USDA, the Biden-Harris Administration quickly worked to address supply chain disruptions and identify a variety of solutions that would result in a more diverse food system that serves everyone equally.
“Disruptions the pandemic caused to the agricultural sector highlighted the need for our nation’s food system to be more diversified, thereby creating more options for producers and consumers and enhancing the resiliency of the food supply chain," Vilsack said in the release, "The Biden-Harris Administration is focusing historic resources on addressing the fundamental challenges the pandemic exposed.”
The USDA's notable achievements in 2021 include the establishment of a more equitable, competitive and resilient meat and poultry supply chain and the expansion and preservation of markets for American agriculture.
Additional achievements include the strategic addressing of supply chain vulnerabilities and the leveraging of American agriculture to meet Americans' food requirements.
“In order to address these foundational issues as we build back better, we went to work to fundamentally change and improve America’s food system to create more, better and fairer markets for producers and consumers alike,” Vilsack said.
USDA pledges to continue to prioritize these goals in 2022, in addition to increasing demand for American agricultural goods.
