U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), today sent a letter to Howard Shelanski, Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), in support of a proposed amendment to Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule. The proposed changes to the rule would allow greater access to recertification and allowing easier compliance with the RRP rule.
"Under current law, contractors and remodelers working on older homes in states like Louisiana or Oklahoma would be forced to leave the State in order to take a refresher course. This is both costly and unduly burdensome," wrote the Senators. "Changing the refresher training requirements for the Renovation, Repair, and Painting rule will protect small businesses from unnecessary costs, which is why it is so important for the rule change to be adopted."
