WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), released the following statement on the Senate's confirmation of R.D. James, of Missouri, to be assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
“The Senate's confirmation of Mr. James is an important step in helping the Army Corps of Engineers more effectively address America's water infrastructure needs," said Barrasso. “He is an experienced civil engineer and well qualified for this important role.
“I look forward to working with Mr. James on issues important to the people of Wyoming. These include finding a permanent solution for ice jam floods on the Big Horn River in the city of Worland; and the withdrawal of the punishing Obama-era Waters of the United States rule."
Background Information:
On Dec. 6, 2017, the EPW Committee held a nomination hearing for James. At the hearing, Barrasso secured a commitment from James to work with the state of Wyoming and the town of Worland to find a permanent solution for ice jam floods. Barrasso also questioned James on the withdrawal of the WOTUS rule.
On Dec. 13, 2017, the committee advanced his nomination by voice vote.
