Philadelphia childcare worker sentenced to 9 years in prison for 'distributing' child pornography

Tayanna Bowman, 25, of Philadelphia, has been sentenced to nine years in prison, 20 years of supervised release, and fined $30,000 for distributing child pornography online.

In March 2021, Bowman plead guilty to sharing child pornography with an undercover federal agent using the instant messenger application, Kik Messenger, according to a Jan. 27 Department of Justice press release. When Bowman committed the crime, she was employed by ChanceLight Autism Services as a behavioral health technician for children on the autism spectrum.

“This defendant chose a line of work providing care to vulnerable, autistic children, and at the same time, she participated in the sexual abuse and exploitation of children by engaging with an online community interested in such abhorrent acts,” said U.S. Attorney, Jennifer Williams, in the release. “It is our duty to protect the most vulnerable members of society and we will continue to uphold that duty by bringing to justice anybody who preys upon minor children.”

Prior to working at ChanceLight, Bowman was a teaching assistant at Cynthia's Little Treasures Daycare in West Philadelphia, according to the release.
