FBI offers $10,000 for information leading to arrest of former Massachusetts handyman charged with 'raping a child'

The Boston division of the FBI's Child Exploitation-Human Trafficking Task Force is seeking the public’s help to locate Melchor Datu and they’re offering $10,000 for information that leads to his arrest.

Datu has a warrant for his arrest from 2012 that charges him with allegedly possessing child pornography, and one from 2017 that charges him with allegedly forcefully raping a child, according to a FBI Boston press release.

Joseph Bonavolonta, the special agent who leads the Boston division of the FBI, said that "the crimes for which Datu stands accused are disturbing and sickening and have robbed children of their childhood," in the release.

Datu worked as a handyman in Lynn, Massachusetts, the release stated. After leaving Massachusetts for New York in December 2008, he flew to Florida then left for Haiti. His last known location was the Dominican Republic in 2009.

Datu is a 50-year-old Asian male with a scar under one of his eyes, according to the release. When he was last seen, he was believed to be approximately 140 pounds and 5 feet, 3 inches tall. He speaks English, Tagalong, and goes by several aliases such as Melchor Juico Datu, Melchor Luico Datv, Javier Sanchez, Xavier Belcher, and Fred Datu.

Anyone with information about Datu's whereabouts is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
