Andrew Archuleta has been named the Wyoming director of the Bureau of Land Management.
Archuleta brings extensive experience to the position and there is excitement within the BLM about his arrival, according to a recent BLM press release.
“Andrew brings almost three decades of service and leadership experience to his new role, and he has been at the forefront of some of our most important initiatives," Tracy Stone-Manning, BLM director said in the release. "His understanding of rural communities and the challenges they face coupled with the expertise he has developed will continue to benefit the BLM and the Wyoming communities and constituencies we serve."
Archuleta will oversee more than 600 staff members and 150 seasonal employees, the release stated. He will also be responsible for the management of 17.5 million surface acres of public land, as well as more than 40 million acres of federal subsurface mineral estate.
Prior to Archuleta's appointment, Kim Liebhauser served as the acting state director for Wyoming. She will now serve as associate state director for Wyoming, according to the BLM.
Archuleta has worked in federal service for nearly 30 years, including 15 years with the BLM, according to the release. During that time, he has served in a variety of roles such as the BLM district manager for the Northwest district of Colorado and the district manager for BLM’s California Desert District.
Archuleta is from Colorado and graduated from Colorado State University, the release stated.
