H-1B Cap Registration period opens in March

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) announced in late January that the Fiscal Year 2023 H-1B Cap Registration period will open on March 1.

Prospective H-1B cap-subject petitioners or their representatives are required to use an online myUSCIS account to register each beneficiary electronically for the selection process. They must also pay the associated $10 H-1B fee for each registration submitted on behalf of each beneficiary, according to the CIS release.

The registration period will range from March 1 through March 18.

"If we receive enough registrations by March 18, we will randomly select registrations and send selection notifications via users’ myUSCIS online accounts," CIS officials said. "We intend to notify account holders by March 31."

Prospective petitioners may complete and submit their registration online in the H-1B registration system, the release said.

Employers are mandated to register if they wish to sponsor a candidate for an H-2B visa, according to JD Supra, a daily source of legal intelligence.

The registration occurs annually and that enters the petitioners into the random H-1B lottery, since more visas are requested than are available each year, JD Supra said.
