Officials from the United States held a virtual meeting this week to discuss the opportunity to increase trade and investment between the U.S. and Brazil.

Participating in the virtual session were Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Don Graves, National Economic Council (NEC) Director Brian Deese and Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported in a release. The release noted that the session was held prior to a special meeting of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum.

"The Department of Commerce and NEC look forward to reviewing the Joint Recommendations," Graves said in the release. "These Joint Recommendations, supported by the U.S. and Brazilian CEO leadership in the forum, play an invaluable role in setting goals to strengthen the U.S.-Brazil commercial relationship and deepen ties between our countries."

A series of jointly issued recommendations from the CEO panel focuses on reforms that will boost bilateral trade and also offer an infusion into the economies of both nations while also benefitting their workers, the Department of Commerce reported.

During the meeting, representatives from both nations focused on the progress made on the heels of proposals from previous CEO forums, the Department of Commerce reported. Session participants also heard from a representative from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who outlined the debut of the Global Entry in Brazil, which was based on a recommendation from a previous forum.

The news release also noted that officials from both Brazil and the United States are motivated to pursue recommendations from the private sector to develop economic growth that benefits both countries, the Department of Commerce reported.
