WASHINGTON, DC -Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) met recently with reporters and outlined a 2012 agenda focused on job creation, economic growth, and consumer protection. The agenda includes:
Pro-Jobs, Pro-Growth Solutions
The subcommittee will continue its focus on American manufacturing. Bono Mack announced a jobs and innovation forum, to be hosted by subcommittee member Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), scheduled for next week to examine ways to make it easier to make it in America. The subcommittee will discuss what steps can be taken to bring back jobs to the U.S. and encourage investment in America’s future. Bono Mack said she wants to make “made in America" matter again, beginning with a plan to remove unnecessary regulatory burdens and job-destroying polices.
“Today for the first time in our nation’s history, America’s $15.1 trillion national debt exceeds the yearly production of the entire U.S. economy. It’s time for the President to recognize that his policies aren’t working and to begin listening to some new ideas. As Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Commerce Manufacturing and Trade I stand ready to work with him," Bono Mack said recently.
In addition to preserving American jobs and seeking opportunities to bolster our competitive edge, the subcommittee will explore new ways to encourage growth and bring new jobs to America. The committee will host a series of hearings to examine the opportunities and challenges affecting different sectors of our economy. The chairman believes that there are several opportunities for job growth in this country, one being the expansion of U.S. tourism. Bono Mack has also invited U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson to testify on the administration’s views on promoting U.S. manufacturing.

Efforts to Streamline Government
Bono Mack welcomed President Obama’s long-overdue proposal to consolidate commerce and trade-related agencies but believes much more must be done to reduce government bureaucracy. The subcommittee will continue to explore ways to eliminate waste and allow for a more business-friendly environment.

Greater Protections for American Consumers and Families
American families are vulnerable to a number of hazards every day, whether it be online or on the road. The subcommittee will continue to work towards stronger protections for Americans’ health, liberty, and property.
The panel will continue hearings on internet privacy issues to determine if legislative action is needed to safeguard consumers. Subcommittee members will discuss ways to enhance online protections while maintaining an open and free internet. The subcommittee will also continue its work on data security legislation to protect consumers in the wake of cyber attacks and identity thefts.

With oversight authority over the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the subcommittee will examine ways to make our vehicles and roadways safer without imposing unnecessary costs on consumers.
Bono Mack is also personally invested in the fight to cut back on drugged
drunken and distracted driving and hopes to hold a hearing on the topic featuring Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. - The Hill
