Carney in December 2011 - “Reject means reject"
At today’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked why President Obama continues to refer to his energy strategy as an “all-of-the above" approach despite rejecting Republican-backed energy solutions like the Keystone XL pipeline. In an attempt to defend his boss, Carney responded, “Keystone is a process, we haven’t rejected anything. … “
Given the wide media coverage, it would be almost impossible to forget when President Obama decided to reject the Keystone XL pipeline application in January. President Obama stated his plans to “reject" the project during a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper last December, stating, “Any effort to tie Keystone to the payroll tax cut, I will reject." Carney later clarified the president’s plans stating, stating, “Reject means reject" and “He thinks it’s rejection-worthy." (Video exchange can be found at 37:19 mark HERE )
