Upton and Walden Comment on White House Spectrum Announcement

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 14, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) released the following statement today in response to the Obama administration’s spectrum initiative:

“We welcome today’s announcement that the White House intends to focus more attention on the federal government’s own use of spectrum. The nearly $80 billion a year that private sector cable, wireline and wireless companies have invested since 1996 spurred the remarkable broadband growth the administration also cataloged today in its report. But as the Internet goes mobile, further growth will require getting carriers more spectrum, an essential economic resource for the 21st century. Continuing its extensive work on spectrum reform and opportunities for job growth, the Energy and Commerce Committee is planning a hearing later this month to further its exploration of mutually beneficial methods to help agencies fulfill their missions while freeing spectrum to drive our country’s prosperity."
