WASHINGTON, DC - Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee stood up for American jobs and affordable energy on the House floor tonight as debate kicked off on H.R. 1582, the Energy Consumers Relief Act. The commonsense legislation, authored by Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), will protect consumers and job creators from the destructive consequences of expensive new energy regulations. The bill would ensure greater transparency and interagency review of EPA’s billion-dollar energy rules and prohibit EPA from finalizing certain rules if the Secretary of Energy determines the rule would cause significant adverse effects to the economy.
“We need to do everything in this country to promote economic growth and this bill looks at the impact of regulations as obstacles to economic growth," said Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY). “The legislation that we consider tonight is simply a commonsense approach, a way to review the impact of energy related regulations at the Environmental Protection Agency."
“While we have all these millions unemployed, the EPA has been advancing an expansive regulatory assault on the production and distribution of affordable and reliable energy," said Cassidy. “The bill will protect consumers from higher energy prices by providing additional oversight on EPA’s most expensive rules that regulate the production, supply, distribution, and use of energy.
