WASHINGTON, DC - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce today announced its hearing schedule for the week of Feb. 10, 2014. Members will examine drug shortages and the recent efforts to address them and the status of DOE’s clean coal programs.
On Monday, Feb. 10, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing entitled “Examining Drug Shortages and Recent Efforts to Address Them." The bipartisan Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act, signed into law on July 9, 2012, included reforms aimed at addressing drug shortages, including modifications to current FDA reporting requirements and expediting the approval of drugs in need. FDASIA also required the Government Accountability Office to prepare a report to examine the causes of drug shortages and evaluate FDA’s role in addressing them. The final version of this report will be released on the day of the hearing. Members will hear from GAO Director of Health Care Marcia Crosse, Ph.D., and FDA Deputy Director of Regulatory Programs Douglas Throckmorton, M.D. Witness testimony will be available at the same link as it is posted.
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing entitled “Department of Energy Oversight: Status of Clean Coal Programs." The hearing will examine the status of the Department of Energy’s clean coal programs, with a focus on the research, development, demonstrations, and timeframes to support the advancement of carbon capture and sequestration technologies for potential future commercial deployment at coal-fired power plants. Witness testimony will be available at the same link as it is posted.
