Hearing Notice: Subcommittee on Health

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 14, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Keeping the Promise: Site of Service Medicare Payment Reforms." Mark E. Miller, PhD, Executive Director from the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission will testify. Other witnesses to be announced.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to keep the promise of Medicare for seniors, the subcommittee will examine ways to modernize and reform Medicare payment structures," said Pitts. “The sad reality is Medicare’s solvency, and ultimately its ability to provide care for our nation’s seniors, remains in jeopardy. Payment reforms have the potential to save money for seniors, taxpayers, and the overall Medicare program."

Currently, Medicare payment structures vary for different care locations. Payment reforms would streamline and simplify the process to provide more consistency and certainty. Legislative proposals to adopt site of service Medicare payment reforms will also be discussed at the hearing and will be made available online here.as they are posted.
