WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing schedule for the week of January 26. The committee will explore what elements should be included in legislation to protect consumers from data breaches and review a number of public health bills.
On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hold a hearing to continue work on data security legislation. As Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) explained, “Working toward a federal data breach solution is a top priority for our new Congress." Members will hear from witnesses to help determine what components should be included in a legislative solution.
Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing to review a number of bipartisan bills to strengthen public health. The bills that will be reviewed are:
* The Ensuring Patient Access to Effective Drug Enforcement Act,
* The Improving Regulatory Transparency for New Medical Therapies Act,
* The Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act,
* The Trauma Systems and Regionalization of Emergency Care Reauthorization Act,
* A bill to reauthorize language from the Public Health Service Act to fund trauma care centers,
* The National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting (NASPER) Reauthorization Act.
