WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) issued the following statement regarding reports that Dr. Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is stepping down.

“Peggy has been a great partner and participant in the 21st Century Cures initiative - even joining us on the road in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, last August for one of our many roundtable discussions. I am grateful for her support of this important initiative and look forward to continuing to work with leaders at the FDA and in the administration as the legislative process continues this year to ensure we are firmly on the path to cures."
