Look Ahead: Committee Announces Hearing and Vote Schedule for the Week of June 1

WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing and vote schedule for the week of June 1. The committee will continue its work on the Architecture of Abundance, discuss the integrity of the Medicaid program, examine the Takata airbag recall, consider legislation to modernize and reform a key federal agency, and review bipartisan legislation regarding Obamacare menu-labeling requirements.

On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hear from Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to discuss the Department’s Quadrennial Energy Review and relevant discussion drafts as part of the committee’s Architecture of Abundance energy legislation. The legislation aims to bring the nation’s energy policy into the 21st Century.as they are posted.

Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will review the increase in improper payments in the Medicaid program. Members will continue efforts to ensure the program is able to deliver on its core promise of providing for the most vulnerable.as they are posted.

Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will continue its examination of the problems leading to and currently surrounding the Takata airbag recall. Members will discuss the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s response and hear testimony from NHTSA, Takata, Global Automakers, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, and the Independent Testing Coalition.as they are posted.

Finally on Tuesday, the Energy and Commerce Committee will convene a markup of H.R. 2576, the TSCA Modernization Act and H.R. 2583, the FCC Process Reform Act. These bills aim to modernize the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to improve chemical safety and increase transparency, predictability, and accountability at the FCC, respectively. Members will deliver opening statements on Tuesday and reconvene Wednesday morning to consider the bills.as they are posted.

Also on Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will begin a two-day hearing to discuss the accountability and energy efficiency aspects of the committee’s Architecture of Abundance energy package. The draft legislation aims to maximize the federal government’s energy savings, encourage innovation and transparency, and bring greater fairness and certainty to energy market participants. On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Health will review bipartisan legislation that provides clarity and flexibility for small businesses from the Affordable Care Act’s menu-labeling regulations. The administration’s costly and burdensome regulations are scheduled to be implemented by Dec. 1, 2015.as they are posted.
