WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders today issued the following comments following the U.S. District’s Court’s decision rejecting requests for a stay of the Federal Communications Commission’s heavy-handed utility-style rules for the Internet.
“The uncertainty for consumers, innovators, and job creators continues. While today’s ruling doesn’t signify how the court will ultimately decide, it allows the FCC to begin implementing an open-ended set of rules that miss the mark and put our online future at risk," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), and Subcommittee Vice Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH). “Unfortunately, we are now in for a long, unnecessary wait while the courts determine if the commission was out of bounds."
The leaders continued, “We still believe that a bipartisan legislative solution to enact strong consumer protections is not only possible, but preferable. In doing so, we can ensure an open Internet for generations to come without risking investment or innovation in this engine of great social value and economic growth."
