Bipartisan Committee Leaders Request Information on Pipeline Safety

WASHINGTON, DC - Bipartisan leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee today sent two letters relating to pipeline safety oversight. The first letter requests updates from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on the status of key pipeline safety reforms enacted by Congress more than three years ago. A second letter to Plains Pipeline asks for documents and information on the company’s maintenance and integrity operations concerning two of its pipeline systems. The letters sent out today were prompted by the May 19, 2015, pipeline failure that resulted in a crude oil spill along the Gaviota Coast in California.
