The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, September 9, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employees." Subcommittee members will discuss H.R. 1624, legislation authored by Subcommittee Vice Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY) to help protect employees from rising health care costs due to certain requirements under the president’s health care law.
“Republicans in Congress are continuing to lead the way on policies to help protect the American people from Obamacare’s many broken promises. The president’s health care law is riddled with costly requirements that have led to higher costs for employees. This legislation will provide relief to businesses struggling to comply with the president’s health care law and protect employees from even higher costs as a result," said Guthrie.
H.R. 1624 amends the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Public Health Service Act to designate businesses with 51 to 100 workers as large employers for purposes of health insurance markets. Currently under the president’s health care law, employers with 51 to 100 employees are classified as small employers, but states have the option to treat them as large employers up until Jan. 1, 2016, protecting employers from certain costly requirements.as they are posted.
