Pallone Admonishes GOP Majority’s Consideration of Anti-Choice Bills

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 10, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement regarding the Republican majority’s announcement that the Health Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing next week to consider several bills attacking a woman’s right to choose:

“The Republican majority has spent the first week back from recess trying to score political points by attacking Planned Parenthood. They have been fixated on demonizing this critical institution that provides life-saving preventative care for 2.7 million patients every year.

“But now we see what this really is. It is yet another attack on the millions of women whom Planned Parenthood serves and their constitutionally protected right to choose what is best for them, their families, and their health.

“Under the guise of an investigation, Republicans are once again pushing their extreme agenda and attempting to roll back the clock on women’s rights. Make no mistake-this is not about Planned Parenthood or even protecting taxpayer dollars. This is about denying American women access to reproductive services, and, once again, shows the Republican majority’s contempt for women’s health and basic rights."
