WASHINGTON, DC - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce today announced its hearing schedule for the week of October 19.

On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Health will reconvene the hearing, “Examining Legislative Proposals to Combat our Nation’s Drug Abuse Crisis." Subcommittee members will hear testimony from a panel of outside experts. On October 8, subcommittee members heard from a panel of administration witnesses regarding a number of bipartisan bills to address the prevalent and growing drug abuse epidemic. The complete witness list and testimony for the second panel can be found online here.

On Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will discuss ways to improve vehicle and roadway safety, including measures aimed at manufacturers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Members will examine the discussion draft on vehicle and roadway safety, focusing on the modernization of NHTSA for the digital age.as they are posted. Witness testimony will be posted at the same link as it is available.

Also on Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Health will discuss opportunities to strengthen the Medicare Part D Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Program. This program was created to help seniors adhere to their prescriptions more diligently, ultimately benefiting the patient and and their Medicare plans. Subcommittee members will review opportunities to improve the program and generate stronger adherence so it can achieve its stated goals.as they are posted. Witness testimony will be posted at the same link as it is available.

On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy will continue its efforts to alleviate drinking water challenges facing rural America. Many rural communities face significant challenges when it comes to maintaining, replacing, or upgrading aging drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. These communities rely heavily on federal and state grant loan programs to finance their various needs. Further taxing these small systems, EPA drinking water regulations issued under the Safe Water Drinking Act have become a major financial burden for small and rural drinking water supply systems.as they are posted.

On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a hearing continuing its examination of the administration’s cap and trade rules, specifically the two final rules and a third proposed rule to regulate carbon dioxide (CO2) from new and existing fossil fuel-fired power plants.as they are posted.

On Friday, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing to review new work from the nonpartisan government watchdog regarding the president’s health law. The Government Accountability Office will testify on the results of three forthcoming reports at the hearing discussing continued shortcomings in the implementation of the law. The first takes a look at new enrollees in the Medicaid program under the health law and whether the administration is doing its due diligence in determining eligibility and the appropriate level of federal reimbursement. The second is a review of how Medicaid interacts with the exchanges established under the law and whether the administration is weeding out duplicate enrollees. The last is a continuation of the GAO’s “secret shopper" work looking at fictitious applicants obtaining coverage through the exchanges.as they are posted. The reports will be released in conjunction with the hearing.

Lastly on Friday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will continue its examination of ways to better protect seniors to ensure their data is safe from bad actors.
