WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Joseph Pitts (R-PA) responded today to the alarming findings by the Corporation for National and Community Service Office of the Inspector General. The watchdog’s report revealed that the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) had trained AmeriCorps members to provide assistance during abortion procedures at multiple community health centers. NACHC received a grant through the AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps program.
“Federal law demands that taxpayer dollars are never to be spent on abortion activities. Not one penny. Period. But a disturbing report from an independent watchdog reveals that was not the case with brazen pursuits by the National Association of Community Health Centers," said Upton and Pitts. “The law was violated and this shameful failure of trust will not be tolerated."
