NASCAR Legend to Join Hudson and Butterfield for Launch of Pediatric Trauma Caucus TOMORROW

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 23, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

House Energy and Commerce Committee members Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) and Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) on Tuesday will officially launch the Pediatric Trauma Caucus with a briefing featuring an all-star panel of experts. NASCAR Team Owner, Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee, and Co-Founder of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, Richard Childress will headline the briefing discussion.

“Pediatric trauma is the most frequent killer of children in this country and can occur in many forms; from concussions to burns, and from the athletic field to highway accidents," said Hudson and Butterfield. “The chilling reality is that these types of injuries claim the lives of more children than all other causes combined. The children that survive traumatic injuries may never be the same as severely injured children are often hospitalized and can require surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. This briefing is an opportunity to discuss with the world’s foremost pediatric trauma experts how policymakers can help protect children."
