Upton and Pallone Comment On WADA Report On Russian Doping

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 18, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement upon the release of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s findings that “beyond a reasonable doubt" the Russian government was involved in the doping of Olympic athletes. Last week, bipartisan leaders from the Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee expressing doping concerns ahead of the Summer Games in Rio.

Upton and Pallone commented, “WADA deserves to be commended for its pursuit of the truth and commitment to clean competition. Government-sponsored doping defies the very integrity and spirit of competition, especially the Olympic games. The extraordinary lengths the Russians took to cheat in Sochi are cause for significant alarm and should serve as a warning for Rio. It is important to be vigilant as even on the world’s greatest athletic stage, there are some looking to cheat the system." Related Items
