WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Energy and Power Subcommittee Vice Chairman Pete Olson (R-TX), and Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus (R-IL) today issued the following statement after the Interior Department issued new rules regulating methane emissions from existing oil and gas wells.
“The administration is now in overdrive, furiously working to cement Obama’s climate agenda as the clock ticks on his presidency," said Upton, Olson, and Shimkus. “This unnecessary Interior rule is a perfect example - and it will raise the price of energy, discourage innovation, and cost more jobs. The good news is the days are numbered for such backward policies. Looking forward, House Republicans have a better way when it comes to protecting our natural resources and saying yes to affordable, reliable energy, and yes to jobs."
