WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), announced a hearing for Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the Extension of Safety Net Health Programs."
#SubHealth will examine the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), for which federal funding expires on Sept. 30, 2017. The program, which turns 20 years old this year, is jointly financed by the federal government and the states.
The subcommittee will also examine Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and the Community Health Center Fund (CHCF), which supports grants to outpatient health care facilities - the nation’s largest source of comprehensive primary care for medically underserved populations.
“CHIP is an important program with bipartisan support that helps ensure low- and middle-income children receive health coverage. This hearing comes at a time when we need to make some key decisions about the program, like how long to extend its federal funding and at what federal match rate," said Chairman Burgess. “It is also critical we examine funding for these community health centers, which include comprehensive medical, dental, mental health, and reproductive care, and other primary care services for medically underserved populations."
The Majority Memorandum, witness list, and witness testimony for the hearing will be available here as they are posted. Related Items
