Giant Eagle, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of its “Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad” sold in prepared foods departments at Giant Eagle and Market District stores across western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and Indiana. The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes and follows a nationwide recall of ready-to-eat pasta products from Nate’s Fine Foods.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, or those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women infected with Listeria are at risk for miscarriages or stillbirths.
According to the company, no illnesses related to this recall have been reported so far. The affected “Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad” was available for sale beginning September 25, 2025.
Customers who purchased the recalled product are advised not to consume it. They should dispose of the product and may return a qualifying receipt to their local Giant Eagle or Market District store for a refund. For questions about the recall, customers can contact Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 during business hours.
Giant Eagle also stated that it has activated its consumer recall telephone notification process. This system uses purchase data and customer phone numbers from the myPerks loyalty card database to notify households that bought the affected product and have up-to-date contact information on file.
