Walden and Burgess Comment on 2017 Obamacare Enrollment

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 12, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) today commented on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) announcement regarding the effectuated 2017 Obamacare enrollment.

“Time and again, we’ve seen enrollment fall far below the Obama administration’s promises. Under the failed individual mandate, roughly twice as many Americans have chosen to pay the penalty tax or claim a hardship exemption than those who have enrolled in Obamacare’s exchanges. And today’s report makes clear that higher premiums and fewer options are directly impacting patients’ decisions. The truth is that Obamacare is not working. This is why the House passed a bill that would lead to double-digit premium reductions and more plans to choose from. The American Health Care Act (AHCA) proposes meaningful reforms that put patients first, grant states flexibility to do what’s best for their unique populations, and rebuild markets damaged by Obamacare," said Chairmen Walden and Burgess.
