#SubDCCP to Hold Hearing on Equifax Data Breach with Former CEO Richard Smith

WASHINGTON DC - The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), formally announced a hearing for Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017, at 10:00am in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Oversight of the Equifax Data Breach: Answers for Consumers."

During the hearing, former Equifax CEO Richard Smith will testify before #SubDCCP members about the data breach that impacted millions of Americans’ personal information.

“Next week’s hearing is about getting answers for the 143 million Americans who were affected by the Equifax data breach. This unprecedented cyberattack raises serious questions about the security of consumers’ personal information online. I look forward to hearing directly from Mr. Smith and appreciate his willingness to come before the committee," said Latta.

Energy and Commerce has jurisdiction over the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the agencies responsible for regulating data security.as they are posted.
