WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) today issued the following statement after President Trump signed two Energy and Commerce Committee bills into law.
“Here at the Energy and Commerce Committee we strive to work across the aisle and get bipartisan solutions signed into law," said Chairman Walden. “The PASS Act extends an important exemption from a 2007 energy law to ensure that fire and home security alarms remain on at all times. The National Clinical Care Commission Act will ensure better, coordinated care for diabetics and patients with other endocrine diagnoses, ensuring they have the tools they need to manage their disease. Together these two laws continue our tradition of working together to get commonsense solutions across the finish line."
S. 190, Power and Security Systems (PASS) Act:
* Committee members Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) introduced identical legislation (H.R. 511) in the House, which unanimously passed in early October.
* The PASS Act will provide an exemption from energy use restrictions for equipment that needs to be on at all times, such as security or fire alarms.
S. 920, the National Clinical Care Commission Act:
* Committee member Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) authored the House companion bill, H.R. 309, which passed the House by voice vote in January.
* The National Clinical Care Commission Act will establish a national clinical care commission to evaluate and recommend solutions regarding better coordination and use of federal programs focused on improving care for people with metabolic syndromes and related autoimmune disorders.
