WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), announced a hearing for Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Implementing the 21st Century Cures Act: An Update from FDA and NIH."
The 21st Century Cures Act accelerates the discovery, development, and delivery of new treatments and cures, in order to maintain America’s global status as the leader in biomedical innovation. The law also includes funding for the Precision Medicine Initiative, bolsters former Vice President Biden’s “Cancer Moonshot," invests in the BRAIN initiative to help improve our understanding of diseases like Alzheimer’s, and fosters development and utilization of promising approaches to regenerative medicine.
On the one year anniversary of the 21st Century Cures Act’s House passage (for the second time ), #SubHealth will hear directly from the agency officials at the helm of implementing this sweeping law labeled a “game-changer."
Confirmed witnesses include:
* Scott Gottlieb, M.D., Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
* Francis Collins, M.D., Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH)
“As we quickly approach the one-year anniversary of the 21st Century Cures Act becoming law, it is important we track the progress of its implementation," said Chairman Burgess. “This bipartisan law has been heralded as a way to change our perception of disease, giving hope to patients across the country. We must ensure that it is implemented according to Congress’ design, and that the law has the support it needs to positively impact patients."
