#SubOversight to Hold Hearing on Grid Recovery Efforts in Puerto Rico

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 21, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS), today announced a hearing for Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Update on the Restoration of Puerto Rico’s Electric Infrastructure."

Continuing the Energy and Commerce Committee’s work overseeing the federal response and recovery efforts to last year’s unprecedented series of hurricanes, next week, #SubOversight will receive a much-needed update from both public and private officials regarding the status of grid restoration in storm ravaged Puerto Rico. This hearing will mark the fourth hearing the committee has held in response to last year’s hurricanes and will provide members an opportunity to check-in on the progress of recovery since a bipartisan delegation of members toured both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in December of 2017.

“Next week’s hearing will provide our members the opportunity to closely examine recent efforts to repair Puerto Rico’s damaged electric grid," said #SubOversight Chairman Gregg Harper. “While progress has been made, thousands of people still remain without power and we need to determine how and when power will be restored. I’m looking forward to hearing from our witnesses about what lessons have been learned, what improvements have been made, and what we can do to be better prepared for the future."

The Energy and Commerce Committee has held three hearings on the recent series of hurricanes:

* #SubOversight held a hearing on Oct. 24, 2017, examining the public health response and preparedness efforts related to the hurricanes.

* #SubEnergy held a hearing on Nov. 2, 2017, examining the federal and state response and recovery efforts.

* #SubEnvironment held a hearing on Nov. 14, 2017, examining the federal, state, and local response to the environmental damage.

A bipartisan delegation of committee members toured Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in early December of last year.

The Majority Memorandum, witness list and witness testimony, and a live stream of the hearing will be posted online HERE as it becomes available.
