The Energy and Commerce Committee Democrats will host a news conference today at 9 a.m. at the House Triangle with environmental advocacy leaders to reiterate their call for the firing or resignation of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt and to discuss important issues he must address during his testimony before the Committee at 10 a.m. Last week, Vice Ranking Member Kathy Castor (D-FL) and Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) led a bicameral resolution, cosponsored by 170 members of Congress, calling for Pruitt’s resignation.
Pruitt’s tenure as EPA Administrator has been mired in controversy. He has attempted to roll back key environmental standards, put public health at risk by weakening rules on toxic chemicals, and faces multiple investigations into: his abuse of taxpayer funds for luxury travel and enormous security detail, illegal privacy booth, meetings with industry, use of a loophole to give enormous pay raises to favored aides, renting a $50-a-night condo owned by the wife of a now former energy lobbyist who lobbied EPA, and much more.
