E&C Democrats Question FCC Chairman Pai on Lack of Candor

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 23, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - All Democratic Members of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai expressing concerns about his repeated evasive responses to their inquiries and his outright refusal to respond to Democratic members of the Committee.

“We are concerned that you have been unable to give complete responses to verbal questions, questions for the record, or oversight letters from our members. We take our oversight responsibilities very seriously, and we expect witnesses before the Subcommittee and recipients of our letters to treat their responses the same way," the Democrats wrote to Pai. “To date, your responses to our requests, in the instances when we receive them, do not meet the very commitment you made to us, and we hope that will change."

The Democrats are requesting complete written responses by June 4, 2018 to an attached list of questions that Pai has either yet to answer completely, or at all.

The letter was signed by Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Communications and Technology Subcommittee Ranking Member Mike Doyle (D-CO), Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA), Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-CA), Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA), and Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA).
