Walden and Burgess on Release of CDC Grants to Help Combat the Opioid Crisis

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 28, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the release of grants to help aid in the country’s response to the opioid crisis.

“Through the additional resources Congress appropriated earlier this year, the CDC has announced a new opportunity for grants that can be used nationwide. These funds will give our states and communities greater resources in both the prevention and tracking of opioid overdoses and help save lives. We must explore every avenue to stem the tide, and this is another critical resource in our collective fight to end this epidemic."

Background:

These grants were appropriated earlier this year in the March 2018 omnibus.
