WASHINGTON, DC - The Senate yesterday passed five Energy and Commerce Committee bills aimed at boosting our nation’s energy infrastructure and improving energy efficiency. The bills now head to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
“This committee has been hard at work to modernize our nation’s energy infrastructure, cut bureaucratic red tape, and capitalize on our energy abundance. That’s what these hydropower bills aim to do and we’re thankful they passed the Senate with such overwhelming bipartisan support," said Full Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and #SubEnergy Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “Hydropower is an essential component of our energy strategy, and these bills ensure we get these important infrastructure projects built on time. This legislation is also a true victory for consumers - it will make electricity more affordable and reliable and create numerous jobs. We applaud President Trump’s leadership on this issue and we look forward to him signing these common sense bills into law."
Passing the Senate yesterday was:
* H.R. 2292, a bill to extend a project of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission involving the Cannonsville Dam, authored by Rep. John Faso (R-NY), extends the license of the Cannonsville hydroelectric project, creating jobs and providing affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of New York.
* H.R. 951, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project, authored by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), extends the license for the W. Kerr Scott hydroelectric project, creating jobs and providing affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of North Carolina.
* H.R. 446, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project, authored by #SubOversight Vice Chairman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), extends the licenses for the Gathright hydroelectric project, creating jobs and providing affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of Virginia.
* H.R. 447, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project, authored by #SubOversight Vice Chairman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), extends the license for the Flannagan hydroelectric project, creating jobs and providing affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of Virginia.
* H.R. 2122, a bill to reinstate and extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving Jennings Randolph Dam, authored by #SubEnvironment Vice Chairman David McKinley (R-WV), H.R. 2122 would authorize FERC to extend the time period during which the licensee is required to commence the construction of the Jennings Randolph hydroelectric project. Construction of the project would create jobs and provide affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of West Virginia.
Background:
This Congress, the committee has been hard at work examining ways to modernize our energy and electricity delivery systems, expand hydropower generation, and modernize our pipeline and hydropower infrastructure.
