Pallone on Coal Ash Rule Revision

Pallone on Coal Ash Rule Revision

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 18, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today in response to the Trump Administration’s rollback of the coal ash rule:

“Today’s coal ash rule revision is a victory for the coal industry and a blow to public health and the environment. This decision returns us to a system of state discretion that produced a string of environmental disasters.

“EPA’s revised rule dilutes requirements for the safe disposal of coal ash, undermining the federal law passed in 2016 to ensure federal minimum standards for its disposal.

“By rolling back the monitoring requirements, the Administration is essentially giving the industry a green light to look the other way. It’s just the latest example of the Trump Administration putting industry profits ahead of public health. Scott Pruitt may be gone, but today’s action shows that his toxic legacy lives on."
