#SubHealth to Continue Check-Up on MACRA Implementation

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 19, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Health Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), today scheduled a hearing for Thursday, July 26, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “MACRA and MIPS: An Update on the Merit-based Incentive Payment System."

The hearing will be the fourth bipartisan oversight hearing on the implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015, and builds off of a November 2017 hearing where #SubHealth received a check-up on Alternative Payment Models (APMs), including those that are qualified under MACRA.

#SubHealth members will hear from witnesses on the importance of fee for service as an option for certain physicians in the traditional Medicare and how the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) has acted as a means to streamline legacy quality programs, provided new financial opportunities for providers to embrace participation and transition to new models of care.

“This subcommittee has made bipartisan oversight of MACRA’s successful implementation a top priority. During the hearing, we will review legacy quality programs and how MACRA has streamlined these programs into MIPS," said #SubHealth Chairman Burgess. “We also will have a chance to discuss technical reforms, enacted as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 earlier this year, to maximize doctors’ participation in this new payment system."

The Majority Memorandum, witness list, and witness testimony for the hearing will be available here as they are posted.
