House Passes Bill Providing Lower Costs for Consumers Seeking Relief from Rising Premiums

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 25, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The House of Representatives today passed H.R. 6311, the Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018, authored by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), by a vote of 242-176.

Among other things, this legislation increases access to lower cost health plans by removing restrictions from the so-called Affordable Care Act that prevented individuals over age 30 from purchasing more affordable products. Championed by #SubHealth Chairman Burgess, this provision will increase patient choice, lower premiums, and save taxpayers money.

“Health care is personal, and patients should be able to choose the plan that best fits their needs," said #SubHealth Chairman Burgess. “With the passage of this bill, House Republicans are putting patients first and giving them more resources to lower the rising cost of health care. I encourage the Senate to advance this legislation, so we can deliver certainty to patients stuck in the so-called Affordable Care Act’s one-size-fits-all grasp."
