Pallone on U.N. Emissions Gap Report

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Nov. 27, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on the release of United Nations Emissions Gap report :

“The United Nations’ Emissions Gap report is a call to action for all nations. If we do not bring greenhouse gas emissions under control, we will subject ourselves to even worse climate change consequences than we are experiencing now. The Trump Administration has been doing all it can to ensure the U.S. is not living up to its commitment to reduce emissions by weakening vehicle standards; increasing subsidies for old, inefficient coal-fired generation; illegally stalling stronger appliance efficiency standards; and undermining methane emission controls. That’s bad for public health, our economy and our children’s future.

The U.S. could and should be leading a global effort to transition the world’s economy in a cleaner, more sustainable direction. The Emissions Gap report, coming on the heels of the Special Report on the consequences of 1.5 degree warming and our own sobering 4th National Climate Assessment leads only to one logical conclusion. We need action on carbon emissions, and we need it now."
