Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) announced today that the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 10, at 10:30 am in 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Priced Out of a Lifesaving Drug: Getting Answers on the Rising Cost of Insulin." This will be the second hearing on the rising cost of insulin. The Subcommittee held its first hearing with stakeholders and patient advocates yesterday.
“No American should be forced to risk going without insulin or rationing their doses because they cannot afford the lifesaving medication," Pallone and DeGette said. “This second hearing will be an important opportunity to hear directly from manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers on the root causes of the soaring price of insulin and potential solutions to lower costs for consumers."
Earlier this year, Pallone and DeGette sent letters to the three manufacturers of insulin in the U.S. requesting information on the underlying causes of the rising cost of insulin and the obstacles to providing more affordable medication.
